Entry from: Windhoek, Namibia Entry Title: "Meeting the animals" Entry: "The plane touched down over 1.5 hours earlier than planned and my suitcase was first off the carousel so I had a bit of a wait along with everybody else in arrivals. On time, my ride arrived and I was driven out to the centre. We were on a main road which was long and straight then drove off on a gravel road for several miles before arriving at the main gate of the reserve and some bumpy roads to the volunteer accommodation. The terrain is quite scrubby and the mountains look like the American mid west. First sight was of 3 semi wild Meerkats terrorising another in a pen. Apparently the semi wild ones were in a pen too and escaped and are still fed by the centre. I was introduced to lots of people and was given lots of animal names thinking I would never remember them - but I did very quickly. After unpacking and having a rest, I went on a baboon walk with a couple of the younger baboons and two of the volunteers. In reality, it was the baboons being carried for about 500 yards to a football pitch then being put down to play. They were a bit reluctant to be put down to start with and squealed a lot but they soon settled down and played. They had a bit of jumping around on me but I was careful not to be too active in case ...
